There are skills for Peter, skills for Miles, and shared abilities — and absolutely everything can be upgraded in one playthrough. Individual skills will benefit one character or the other, while the common tree will enhance both. Development includes increasing health, damage, acrobatics, and recovery speed of moves. Enemy behavior has also been updated, teaching them new moves and basic searching for heroes on the ceiling, and the roster of opponents has been expanded.
Both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have plenty going for them. They both have near-similar gameplay elements while also setting themselves apart, thanks to new changes to the old recipe. Today, we’re comparing everything from the gameplay to the cosmetics to find out which Marvel’s Spider-Man game did it better than the other. During the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, Insomniac Games revealed some gameplay of the upcoming title, which you can see above. Insomniac shared the Story Trailer for Spider-Man 2, giving not only a better look at the plot of the sequel, but many of the characters involved too.

Switching up to the medium graphic preset will get you 1080p at 60fps, as long as you’ve got an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 for your GPU. The Spider-Man 2 minimum specs almost completely mimic those of Horizon Forbidden West, which is no surprise given that both games are PS5 ports that use expansive open worlds with a high level of graphical fidelity. Miles initially helps rid Peter of the symbiote while Harry seeks to get it back. The symbiote re-bonds to Harry, who is resentful that Peter initially kept the symbiote to himself due to its malevolent influence on him. Upon re-bonding with Harry, the symbiote transforms Harry into the monstrous Venom, who then kills Kraven the Hunter and creates symbiote nests around the city.

You’re made to wait a little too long for them sometimes, but when they do arrive they never fail to excite. They are evolving brawls packed full of danger that put all of your skills to the test. Dodges and parries are key, as well as using environmental tools dotted around the arenas for your benefit. One area that Insomniac has made improvements in is that Spider-Man 2 offers significantly more in the way of enemy variety, so you’ll no longer be battering the same five balaclava bullies with baseball bats. New factions and units, such as flamethrower-wielding cultists that keep you at a distance, flying drones, and hunters who deploy laser grids above your head to limit aerial attacks keep you on your sticky toes.
However, Sony Interactive Entertainment will offer you a bonus to log in — in Spider-Man 2’s case, that bonus is an early unlock for the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 suit. This game falls into the most common pitfall of big open world games. There are so few important landmarks in this version of New York City that the game could’ve taken place in a regular town and felt no different. However, there’s now a third strand shared by both characters, which is something entirely new to the series. With it you can build on the combat and traversal skills that you would want in either Spider-Man, creating a more rounded – and appropriately – symbiotic duo. Besides the change of main antagonists, there are also villains to fight against all across New York City.

Ultimately, Phin sacrifices herself to help Miles save the city, by flying him high above the city, so he can release the energy where no one else will be harmed from the explosion besides herself. The book came out at the same time as the game did, in November 2020, and it depicts Miles’ struggles as he fights to figure out what type of Spider-Man he wants to become, all while battling his own personal problems. With the Spider-Men slinging around some serious upgrades, it makes sense that the skill trees have experienced a boost, too. There are now three different skill trees to develop as the game progresses. The two individual strands focus on what makes each hero unique, such as Miles’ bioelectricity and invisibility, and Peter’s Spider-Arms and Symbiote powers. Customers find the game fun to play, with one customer describing it as quick action-packed and another noting it’s perfect for young fans.
The gameplay revealed so far showed that players will be able to switch webheads at specific moments, allowing players to experience the story from both Peter’s and Miles’ points of view. Perhaps the Symbiote saved Harry Osborn, and he subsequently becomes the Venom in this version of the story. It’s unclear how Peter Parker gets the Venom Symbiote, but players will be able to experience him in the iconic black Symbiote suit, which seems to be affecting his personality negatively. With options like raytracing and ultra-wide support, we want to give players the chance to make full use of their high-end PC gaming rigs. However, at Nixxes we also take pride in making PC games scale down to prior generation hardware.
Overall, the game is a phenomenal experience, and its 32 missions are all rich and full of content. At SC888 of the game’s second act, Peter saves Miles from Kraven before the two Spider-Men face off, as Miles tries to get Peter to give up the Symbiote. Miles defeats Peter and captures the Symbiote before the two of them bring the alien suit back to the destroyed rubble of the April May foundation. This fight concludes the game’s second act and sets up a tense final act, as Peter and Harry are set to face off as enemies. Despite the disappointment, it’s unlikely that any DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would’ve been very exciting. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be exclusively released on PS5 on October 20, 2023 at midnight, local time.
